What is ZIP?

ZIP was originally designed by Phil Katz for PKZIP. However, many software utilities other than PKZIP itself are now available to create, modify, or open (unzip, decompress) ZIP files. Microsoft has included built-in ZIP support (under the name "compressed folders") in later versions of its Windows operating system.

The ZIP file format is a popular data compression and archival format. A ZIP file contains one or more files that have been compressed, to reduce their file size, or stored as-is.

ZIP files generally use the file extensions ".zip" or ".ZIP" and the MIME media type application/zip. Some software uses the ZIP file format as a wrapper for a large number of small items in a specific structure. Generally when this is done a different file extension is used.

There are 4 ways to mount ZIP files as a virtual disk:

1. Using file association

1) Open WinMount main window, Click the "Option" drop down menu, Select "Options-File Association", tip ZIP to be associated with Mount.

2) Double-click a ZIP file, WinMount will mount it to a new virtual disk.

2. Using right-click menu

On ZIP right-click drop down menu, click "WinMount3 -> Mount to new drive", WinMount will mount it to a new virtual disk.

. Mount to new drive: Mount the ZIP file to a new virtual drive.
. Mount to...: Assign a disk letter for the ZIP file. (Refer to "How to assign a disk?" on the bottom of this page.)

3. Using toolbar

1) Click the button "Mount file" on the toolbar of WinMount main interface;

2) Select a ZIP file, click "ok". WinMount will mount it to a new virtual disk.

4. Using drag

Drag a ZIP file to WinMount main interface directly, WinMount will mount it to a new virtual disk.

* Mounted drive of zip is writable, but changes will be lost after unmounting.

How to assign a disk?

Of course, you can assign a disk for the ZIP file, such as H: or K: or whatever you like.

1) Click the button "Mount to" on the toolbar of WinMount main interface( or right-click the ZIP file and select "Mount to...");

2) Select a ZIP files, select a drive, then WinMount would mount the ZIP file to the assigned disk.

Step2: Select a disk and input a path for the ZIP file

You can also input a path for the ZIP file.
For example, select "H:\" and input "folder\folder1", then the ZIP file would be mount to "H:\folder\folder1".
